So the title is a tad misleading because I don't do anything small in my house. This was a burger disguised as a slider for the sake of post name cuteness. This recipe is super easy and geared to those who burn water. You really can't screw this up. It's really straight forward. Here's what you need:
Progresso Bread Crumbs Italian Style
Mozzerella cheese (preferably but I used Cracker Barrel marbled cheese)
1. Season the ground beef using the Lawrys, black pepper and garlic powder. I sprinkled over the top, rolled the meat in together, flipped it over and sprinkled on the other side.
2. Sprinkle the Progresso Bread crumbs over the meat and roll again.
3. Grab a small amount of meat and roll into a patty.
4. Using your thumb press in the middle of your patty.
5. Stuff with chunks of cheese.
6. Pour parmesan over the chunks of cheese.
7. Pinch the sides of the patty to cover the parmesan and cheese.
8. Place some olive oil in a pan (the bread crumbs will make the burger stick to the pan) Cook on both sides at Medium-High Heat until brown.
9. Meanwhile heat up 2 tbs of butter in a small frying pan and sprinkle garlic powder. When it melts add your bread and toast for about 2 minutes or desired toasty/garlickyness.
10. Be prepared to go mmm.. Omg....
I usually don't do maxi dresses only because I love showing off my legs. However these 8 maxi dresses made me change my mind. I'm debating about being covered and sexy for Valentine's day. What do you think about these? Which one is your favorite?
It's snowing in NYC. Who would've thought after that mild November and December we had that we would ever see snow? Not I. These frigid temperatures and blustering snow calls for a Netflix and chill day. So get your Tipsy Bartender on, make some snacks and watch some of these shows below.
1. Black Mirror
A miniseries inside of a miniseries. Trust me It's good.
A bunch of individuals with the ability to teleport to random places. They're all related somehow and it gets a little messy.
3. Masters of None
A hilarious show that follows a group of people who excel at pretty much nothing.
4. Beasts of No Nation
A touching film about the a child soldier and guerrilla gang. There are two rape scenes but they aren't graphic.
A super hero who is a lawyer by day and vigilante by night. Did I mention that he's blind?
I still have no fucking idea what this show is about but Idris Elba is in it and he's very nice to look at.
Literally one of the best shows on television. That is all.
8. Sons of Anarchy
A group of badass bikers live life and take back their city.
9. Z Nation
The Walking Dead on Crack.
An old man obsessed with sex and life tries to figure things out. There are some explicit scenes so what until the kids are sleep.
11. Jessica Jones
A super hero vows to defeat her arch enemy starts off slow but moves extremely fast after.
It's Martin Luther King Jr. day and every year I am always conflicted about writing a blog post. I don't know how to describe my upset and disappointment. Racially, 2015 was an unmatched year. If black people weren't being killed by police or each other, we were being made fun of with black face, questions about our hair were taken as jokes and as a community we were taken for fools. Our valiant efforts in art were mocked as we were snubbed for prestigious awards. People outside of the race were using the N word as freely as the slave masters did back in the 1800's.
Martin Luther King Jr. did more than just protest for peace. He protested for the togetherness and activeness of the black community through service. We find ourselves hating everyone else for not assisting us when we don't even assist our damn selves. Since I was 20, MLK day was a day for me to listen to his speeches and reflect on the state of our people. Today, for the first time I decided that simply listening to him was not enough. I decided to walk in his shadow and do community service. As a woman who is still trying to navigate through life, the phrase "Be the change you seek" is becoming more salient by the day.
This post a testament, a promise to become more active in my community. Yes, I can always speak down on the generation behind me, what they lack, why they can't read properly or convey intellectual thoughts, or that they're consumed with consumerism and capitalism or I can stop talking shit and actually do something. Hopefully this post is a wake up call to my peers to walk in Dr. King's shadow. Donate your time, your money, your energy. Join your community board. Volunteer at your local elementary school. Do something to contribute to our neighborhood instead of hiding behind your keyboard and complaining.
Since Sai started eating table food, it never occurred to me that my baby would be a vegetarian. Not that I have a problem with it, I've been trying to convert for years now. I called myself trying to grow dreads while I was in college but after my grandfather passed my grandma wasn't having that shit. She shortened my journey to becoming a Rasta real quick by forcing me to perm my hair.
But, here I am making dinner for my son who is a friend to all legumes and loves rice & beans. He gives me his bowl back(a playful green adorned with black and white squares around the rim) back to me and says "Mommy I don't want it". I have heard variety is the spice of life but not so frequently with this kid. He doesn't like surprises. Pancakes or oatmeal/cream of wheat in the morning. Cheerios, tangerines, bananas or apples for snacks. Pasta or rice and beans for dinner with some sort of vegetable. He's not interested in trying new things. Not even if I try it in front of him.
So, was I surprised when I made him sausages for dinner and he ate it? ABSOLUTELY. Was I shocked when he ate pieces of the rib I had drowned in Sofrito and slow cooked for 5 hours? Utterly surprised. So what do you do with an indecisive one year old? Let them be. Honestly this is the beginning of continuing indecisiveness for him. Just make sure your wallet and/or refrigerator can keep up with the changes.
Here are some food suggestions so your LO doesn't get bored.
Lots of healthy finger foods - string cheese, fruits, deviled eggs
As a kid, I hated the taste of milk. I still do. My grandma used to give me the sweet ass strawberry syrup but now as a parent, older and wiser(allegedly) that kind of defeats the purpose no? For Sai, I like to put a little ground cinnamon in his milk just to take away from that gross taste I despised as a kid. Yogurt is also good for the milk benefits but they make a mess. In all honesty, he finishes his lemon water faster than the milk without the cinnamon. At least I know he's my child.
Having sausage links or making chicken nuggets from fresh chicken breasts if your kid likes to dabble with eating meat but you are reserved in giving them stuff loaded with preservatives and sodium. (Hypertension runs in my family so I'm wary about using salt in my food)
Make breakfast foods like pancakes and sausage links by the boatload and keep them in a container in a fridge. Okay, maybe not by the boatload but 2-3 of each It's good to have a back up just in case your LO decides to have a tantrum because he's bored with plan ol' dinner.
Do you have a little one that's just now forming food habit? How did you adjust to all the changes? Comment below!
Over the years, my style has evolved, de-evolved and completed that vicious cycle multiple times. It started off with dressing like a hoochie in my teens, short mini skirts, low cut revealing tank tops. Then I got fat and switched up my style to include more modest clothing, less tummy and more accessories. Then I became skinny again and fell back into my old ways. Following that, a pregnancy and now since my fitness journey, back down to a decent size. My style has shifted once again. Now, I opt for cute button downs, knee length skirts and bad ass shoes. I love borrowing stuff from the boys especially oxfords and bow ties.
Wildfang is dedicated to the Tomboy and at first looks a butch lesbian but never fear just like men's clothing, this website has many versatile pieces that can be dressed up or down. Below are my top picks.
With the new addition of baby Zion to the family, I'm definitely having a bit of baby fever. Gymboree just dropped three new collections for newborns and I couldn't stop swooning! How cute is that mom outfit for Mother's Day? The site is having a huge sale right now and they are also giving away Gym Bucks, meaning the more you buy, the more you save so stack up!
There are affiliate links in this post so I do get paid if you shop! :D
So before I start, let me say that I did not get paid to do this review although I probably should have. Any way I am an affiliate of a couple of websites including Sammy Dress meaning that if any one shops there and uses my code/link I get paid. My homegirl Paris tweeted me one day after I was promoting Zaful and told me that they basically took her money and never sent her the clothes. Which to me is disgusting and unacceptable. I don't like companies who do things like that. If I trust you enough to give you my information, I expect you to send me something even if it's not what I ordered. Just don't take my money and dip. But, I have stopped promoting them so hard for now because I really need to do a full review on them but I haven't had the resources to do so.
Any who, I have purchased from Sammy Dress before. They have never taken my money and not sent me products. A while ago while he was overseas, I bought Corey a little inexpensive peacoat and he loved it. I'm the type of shopper that looks at things for days upon weeks before actually deciding to buy. I like other people to post reviews and pictures and then I may buy depending on how in love I am with the item.
I preed this coat for approximately 3 weeks. For those of you who are not West Indian, preeing is watching feverishly/stalking. I looked at it like everyday saying damn I really have to get this coat. So, in November I bought it. Now I've heard horror stories about shipping taking forever but that's expected because this place is in China. It arrived almost a month later. I was in no rush because December in New York was rather warm and I even pulled out my sandals one day.
Sammy Dress pulled a houdini and got this jacket in a package so tiny it fit in the mailbox. My first thought was oh hell nah, this is about to be a disaster. But it wasn't, after I unraveled the jacket out of the package, I loved it! It was exactly like the picture and it fit perfectly. I bought it in a large because when you order overseas you usually have to order a size up.
As you can tell, I've been rocking the jacket non stop and I've gotten tons of compliments on it. Two things that I didn't really love so much was 1. the hooks, I had to bend them so that they stay in place and 2. the jacket sheds a lot so it's difficult to wear my neverfull because I'm pulling the feathers off every time I move my bag.
Here are some tips to shopping on these super cheap sites
1. Always check for reviews and user photos. These are a good indication if the item is going to look remotely close to what the picture looks like.
2. Avoid items that have photoshopped pictures. You can usually tell if a photo is photoshopped because the colors/model will look slightly off.
3. For the most part you do get what you pay for. If a jacket is $12, expect it to look like it's $12. If you see something on the site that's above $20 expect it to be decent quality.
4. Pay attention to fabric composition. A jacket composed of primarily polyester probably won't keep you warm or be of good quality.
5. Use your judgement. If your gut tells you no then say no!
With the shipping, the total was $26.78 and I had a coupon code. The items below are next on my Sammy Dress list. If you can't tell, I love fur.
Life resumed as normal today following our Christmas/ New Year's holiday (for the most of us). For some reason I still feel like I'm in vacation mode. 5 days into 2016 and I have yet to post my goals for this month or even given them a second thought. I'm slacking! Does anyone else feel the same?
I plan to do a lot of detoxing for 2016 not just physically but mentally. I feel as if a lot of thoughts consume me and prevent me from being awesome. I'm looking to fix my body while fixing my mind.
I have been completely disappointed in myself as I have neglected my yoga for the past few weeks. I know, I know, it's totally unlike me. I have also consumed sad amounts of liquor so I'm ready to detox with a vengeance. My body has gotten readjusted to having sugar, so I'm craving sweets and I've been satisfying that craving by having Arizona Iced Teas for the past few days. A habit I really have to kick. After dying on New Years Day and not coming back to life by Sunday, I had to do something and fast. So, here's a quick recipe that I used to flush my system and cure that crazy ass hangover.
1 bottle of water
3 capfuls of Apple Cider Vinegar
2 dashes of Red Pepper flakes
3 dashes of cinnamon
