It has been a little over one year since my good friend did a feature on me for Manik Mag, “Blogging Black”. I am extremely proud of my growth and my enlightened perspective on life.
I used to dream of a moment where one of the huge magazine would pick me up for some shitty blog post I did that went viral. I would sell my soul to be “sponsored”, I would alter who I was for the promise of being someone. I would be consumed with the next big thing, 1,000 likes and the promise of more sponsorships. For a whole year, I haven’t stepped foot into a single fashion event. And to be completely honest I am okay with that. I am fine with not watering down my blackness, for not having to delete my tweets to hide my “black rage” or typical “black girl” attitude. I have blogged less and listened more. I have experienced life and heard gems from those who are affluent in life. I don’t aspire to be ManRepeller. I aspire to be me, in greatness. We all have faults and while this quest of life is grueling navigating it my way has given me the ultimate power; freedom. “SO IS THERE A SOLUTION TO END THE SEPARATION AND HATE THAT BEING BLACK ON THE INTERNET CAN FORM, RANA SUGGESTS “INSTEAD OF DIVIDING OURSELVES IN DIFFERENT BLOGS WE NEED TO BAN TOGETHER BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS REAL, ITS APPARENT FOR CARAMEL WOMEN, LIGHTER SKIN WOMEN LIKE MYSELF AND DARK SKIN WOMEN, AND THE FACT THAT WE HAVE DIVIDED OURSELVES IS PART OF THE REASON WE ARE NOT SUCCEEDING”- SHE FURTHER GOES ON TO IMAGINE A FASHION WEEK WHICH WOULD STEM FROM BLACK BLOGGERS ON THE INTERNET UNITING AND BRINGING THEIR FASHION SENSE AND KNOWLEDGE TO THE FOREFRONT OF THE INTERNET AND FINALLY BRYANT PARK ‘I WOULD CALL IT EBONY FASHION WEEK, KENTE CLOTHS EVERYWHERE AND AFROS GALORE.”- #IAMBLACKHISTORY
