When I opened my email earlier today, I flipped the fuck out. Missguided x Barbie collaboration has dropped and I'm gagging over the pieces.
Me at the Botanical Gardens on Washington Avenue looks like another world!
Is the question that everyone asks me who is not from Brooklyn when I tell them where I’m from. Brooklyn folks are one of a kind, spicy, feisty and determined. We are educated and successful. Some of the world’s best people come straight from Brooklyn, more specifically Crown Heights. Some of my favorite Crown Heighters include Nas, Marty Markowitz, and the first woman to run for president Shirley Chisholm. Today, after much work and collaborative effort our borough is filled with monuments, buildings and activities to accurately reflect all the wonderful characteristics we have. 11225 is dynamic and home to some of the best attractions New York City has to offer. Within a 2 mile radius, we have parks, gardens, monuments and a plethora of museums. More than enough to keep one busy during any kind of weather.
Spending a day in Crown Heights where I grew up at can start 10 minutes away from my home at the Prospect Park Zoo. Walk one block and end up at the world famous Grand Army Plaza. Following that, we can cross the street to the Brooklyn Library Central Branch whose exterior is decorated in 14 karat gold hieroglyphics. A walk through the grand library leads you to the back of Mount Prospect Park and a 4 minute stroll leads you to the side of the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens with the great lawn and beautiful rose garden. Come in October for Cherry Blossom season and prepared to have your mind blown. 20 steps from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is the front of the Brooklyn Museum which features a beautiful fountain and steps. A rest destination packed with food trucks for those who have trekked around the park and the library. Once inside the Brooklyn Museum, visit one of the Pablo Picasso paintings we have but also be sure to visit any of the featured exhibits some past ones include Kaws, Kehinde Wiley, Georgia O’Keefe, Murakami and many others. But what most don't know is we also have a huge replica of Lady Liberty tucked away in the back of the parking lot.
With all that walking and sight-seeing you’re sure to be hungry. Within a 10 block radius, Crown Heights has a plethora of food offerings including West Indian, Indian, Mediterranean, Italian, French, Thai, Mexican, Japanese, American Burgers, coffee bars and the finest fast food NYC has to offer. Franklin avenue also boasts a number of bars with specialty happy hours and a desert bar for your sweet tooth. Describing Crown Heights sounds like you are in the middle of midtown New York but you’re not. Steps away from all the hustle and bustle of Washington and Franklin avenues are tree lined blocks, beautiful brownstone homes and most importantly family. Friday nights in the summer at CUNY MEC you can see a free jazz concert, Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum is a party. #PostalCodePride Come visit us sometime!

As a woman coming of age, I’ve always known how important my feminine health was. Since I was a young girl, I’ve had many issues and complications that lead to me being a little more wary in regards to not only my feminine health but leading a healthy sexual lifestyle as well. I was diagnosed with a cyst at a young age and later, following childbirth HPV. I made sure to get tested on a monthly basis whether or not I was switching sexual partners and I also kept up with my yearly PAP smears. Although HPV can resolve on it’s own, if left untreated it can lead to cervical cancer and other issues like infertility. Yes, condoms and protective measures are important but more important than that are yearly pap smears(twice a year if you’ve had HPV) and constant check ups are the only sure way to stay safe.
Chlamydia is one of the leading causes of HPV infections and cervical cancer. Currently, in the UK notablyEast Yorkshire and Humber, Chlamydia is on the rise. Because of it’s sneaky nature and non symptomatic effects, Chlamydia is allowed fester and causes tons of harm to the reproductive organs including the possibility of infertility. More than 70% of women who have been diagnosed with Chlamydia never experienced any symptoms in comparison to 30% of men diagnosed who have never experienced symptoms. It takes 3 to 6 weeks for Chlamydia to be symptomatic if the symptoms even appear at all.
Just to be clear, there doesn’t need to be penetration for you to contract Chlamydia. As long as there are sexual fluids present, it is possible to spread the infection. Activities that could unknowingly spread Chlamydia include but are not limited to anal sex, oral sex, vaginal penetration, sharing dildos and toys without proper sterilization, and reusing condoms.
If you have come into contact with someone who has Chlamydia or believe they have contracted it, do not wait. You can get Chlamydia testing for free at the clinic. Some people, understandably so are a little more hesitant and too embarrassed to go to a public place for STD testing and diagnosis so, The Independent Pharmacy allows you to test in the comfort of your own home and acquire the proper Chlamydia treatment online. You can swab a sample and send it back them, just like the free clinic takes a sample from you and get the results within a shorter time frame, only 3 working days. Following that, if it’s determined that you do in fact have Chlamydia, you can also purchase the necessary medication right from the website and have shipped to your front door.
The testing lab that the Independent Pharmacy uses is a well known and trusted lab in the UK and meets all governmental code and requirements.
