Gone are the days where beautiful skin was effortless and the only worry I had was a random pimple around red dot time. As my hormones change and I get older, my face is riddled with all types of issues including the occasional zit, light spots but my least personal favorite blackheads.
Blackheads have been the disdain of my existence for the last 3 years. After having Sai, it seemed as if all my freckles magically turned into blackheads. Simply drinking water and eating healthy does not get rid of them if they're already there. So, drastic times call for drastic measures and there was no action short of insane.
I think I have rubbed everything on my face from avocado to brown sugar, lemon rinses and scrubs to steaming hot water to open pores and cool water to close them, but after months of trial and error I have finally discovered a regimen that 1. works and 2. doesn't just work in my head.
Not to say the natural remedies I tried weren't effective but they weren't effective fast enough. I'm a native New York and a Millennial. I like instant gratification. Or at least close to instant. This Avon mask has helped me tremendously in realizing my trouble areas(when it dries, your pores appear large where there are blackheads) and google has been my best friend in aiding in proper care and maintenance of attempting to remove blackheads myself at home.
No, seriously, let's talk about Google though. It's a scary place and can really frighten you when it comes to your belief in yourself and your capabilities. I questioned myself multiple times like OMG what if I damage my skin. OMG what if this stuff breaks me out and then eventually I'm like look, whatever happens can't be that bad. So after watching 50 million YouTube videos, I actually used a sewing needle to push some of the blackheads out which didn't appear damaging to my skin.
I've done things backwards a few times in regards to the regimen but I think I figured out something that's fool proof.
1. Open up pores with a hot wash rag. When I say hot, I mean damn hot. So hot it burns your hands but feels good on your face. Like, one of those wet rags they give you at the spa. Let it sit on your face until it gets cool then do it again.
2. Use this amazing Avon Clear Skin Pore Penetrating Mineral Clay Mask. There's tons of stuff in here including Eucalyptus and Iron Ferment(Whatever that is) but it's active ingredient is salicylic acid (.5%)which helps to unclog pores.
3. Budget beauties will appreciate what I use next. After letting the mask sit until it's dry (about 10 minutes or so) I wash the mask off. I then do the hot rag thing again and then use the Rite Aid brand clearing scrub. This salicylic acid is 2% which is a large increase from the Avon joint. However it doesn't stay on as long and it helps to scrub the dead skin off.
4. After washing the Rite Aid scrub off, I use a cold rag to close my pores and then moisturize with Dr. Nona's or my coconut oil mist spray for the night.
My skin is the softest it has been since I was 16. When I'm not at work. I like to give my face a rest from foundation and make up period. My next step is to get a Clarisonic or at least a knock off to aid in my journey for beautiful glowing skin like this beauties below.
