Growing up in the states, specifically New York City has been a memorable experience. In the sweltering heat, we would break the fire hydrants for some relief, fill up our water balloons and have a blast in the middle of the street. Simultaneously, you would hear the sweet sounds of Mr. Softee and kids begging for ice cream. Today, we have migrated to missions as our summer recluse and there's plenty of adventurous activities to keep everyone busy.
For one thing, New York has plenty of activities and events that are kiddie friendly. Firstly, the Brooklyn Museum is open and free on the first Saturday of every month. For 2018, it's free July 7th, August 4, and Sept 1. They celebrate with different exhibitions, concerts and even a dance parties.
There's a plethora of parades and days in the summer in New York, starting the month of June off with the Pride parade in the city. There's Guyanese day, Belize day, the Puerto Rican Day parade where culture collides. These days are a celebration of tradition, fun, family and food. Juneteenth celebrations happen during the third week of June and the summer officially ends with the West Indian Day parade on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.
There are also tons of concerts and yearly events to visit as well such as the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, Pinknic in Governor's Island, The Governor's Ball, The Meadows and many others.
For those who enjoy keeping their money close to their pocket, there are several fun days out. There are also loads of free/inexpensive things to do such as visiting Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Botanical Gardens or even the Bronx Zoo. For the younger ones who love trains, the Transit Museum is something not to miss. In Queens, Flushing Meadows Park is a super expansive space that has a BBQ/Park Area, the USTA for tennis, CitiField for Baseball, the New York Hall of Science, the Queens Zoo plus rides all summer long.
If you're looking to travel outside of the US and find yourself in the UK, there's many things to do that will keep your children entertained during the summer. Latest Deals has an incredibly detailed post about fun activities to do with the kiddies. There's even a blurb about visiting a castle(it's free with a membership). Although super awesome, some things that they have in the UK aren't as prevalent in New York are kids eating for free or for a certain price.
