As an avid blogger I have written hundreds of review posts- I even have a blog dedicated to them! I have learned a lot about how to write great review posts that attract readers, as well as increase SEO and Keyword Ranking. Writing a review is actually very easy if you know how to do it well. Reviews help to rank with keywords, because instead of writing a news article and making certain keywords fit in the post, you can make the entire post focused on that particular thing. For example, if you write for a fitness blog and want to rank for weight training, you can review a certain brand of weights which helps you rank easier!
The first thing you need to do is describe the item in as much detail as you can. It's like writing a book synopsis- say as much about the item as you can without letting your opinion leak in just yet. Be sure to include the manufacturer or brand name, the price, and where it can be bought in this part. If it comes in more colors or different sizes and shapes, be sure to include that in the description, as well as anything else you think the reader might benefit from knowing. After you have written all about the item and how it works, now it's time for the actual review a.k.a your opinion of the item and how well it does its job! Go off of the description and talk about how well it actually works, whether it delivers what it promises to from the packaging, what you were expecting, and what did you get? Say all the things that you thought about the item and review the item itself! Don't ramble on and on, though, say everything that the reader ought to know and everything that you would have liked to know before purchasing it, and not too much more than that.
It is also important to include as many pictures of the product and you with the product as you can. It is not an uncommon practice in the blogging world to write fake reviews for profit, so as a way to develop trust in your reviews and make it more professional, say "Cheese!". Include the pictures of the item in your description so that if your description doesn't make complete sense, they can see exactly what you mean. Not only does including a lot of pictures make your review more professional, it also helps it to attract more readers. Readers love to look at pictures- it makes them feel closer to the blogger and have a better understanding of that they are looking at, so take a ton!
Keep things nice and organized; don't ramble on or go off on a random thought. Keep the review centered on the product at hand. Organize what you want to talk about in your rough draft and brainstorm so that you don't forget anything important. Another important thing to add is a link to where the item can be bought- if the link is affiliate, you should mention that as well. Adding a link makes it easier on the reader, as they don't have to go searching for the item themselves. Plus, outgoing links increase SEO!
Writing reviews gets easier and easier with practice; one of the best things about them is they don't have to go on forever. You can make them nice and short, making blogging easier on you. And, there is no "right" way to write a review, which makes it more fun on the writer. Writing reviews are a great way to increase SEO and traffic to your blog or website, but they are also super easy to do. An added bonus is if you have an affiliate link- you can make a little money off of the review.
